Accomplishments in the year 2007 Gene Hilby Funeral held at the Taft Cemetery, Sept. 8, 2007, Lincoln City, Oregon. Gene Hilby Memorial Benefit was held at The Roadhouse 18, 6576 Salmon River Hwy, Otis, Oregon on Sept. 8, 2007. A second Memorial Benefit was held at The Bulldog Saloon, 250 SE Hwy 101, Depoe Bay, Oregon on Sept. 15, 2007. Celebration of Honor, was on September 29, 2008 at the 51st Street Turnaround in Taft, Oregon. Roundabouts set up the Motorcycle Bean Bag Toss Game for the children, and helped with the Kite Building activities. Plein Air Art Festival was held on Oct. 6th & 7th at the 51st Street Turnaround in Taft, Oregon where we again set up the Motorcycle Bean Bag Toss Game. Roundabouts arranged for a Memorial Celebration & Potluck on November 9th, 2007 for a Retired Air Force Master Sergeant Kyle Stanton, who had passed away and the Celebration was held at the Ballston Community Center in Ballston, Oregon. During the Annual Craft Show at Polk County Fairgrounds at Rickreall, Oregon on Nov. 23rd & 24th, 2007. Our group rented two tables, one for a bake sale and another for hand crafted wooden boxes. Proceeds benefited the Veterans for Christmas. On December 15th, 2007 our group participated with the Bay Area Merchants Association (BAMA) with Miracle on 51st Street Taft Village Festival Of Lights. We rode the Parade of Motorcycles where several of our members dressed & participated riding down Hwy 101 as Rudolph, Reindeers, Elves and we even had Santa riding on a trike. The group collected 35 coats & jackets that were donated for Coats For The Cold and dropped off at Cutter’s Cleaners at the Salishan Marketplace, Gleneden Beach, Oregon. Families we adopted for Christmas Rochelle Hilby, wife of Gene Hilby and her immediate family. Through Willamina Lumber Mill in Willamina, Oregon we delivered groceries and presents to her on Dec. 21, 2007. Willamina Lumber Mill also delivered 2 loads of wood and some of our members on Dec. 31st cut up the wood to size to fit her stove. Jim Walsh, a disabled veteran, his wife and grandson was recipients of a Christmas dinner, groceries and presents for the grandson. The Walsh family also received a load of wood from Willamina Lumber Mill. Safeway Produce Manager donated at $50 gift card and Roundabouts for Veterans and Community donated $100 to the family. This was arranged by Ben Unger of American Legion, McMinnville, Oregon. 2008 Scheduled Events Antique Week was held in Lincoln City on February 8th – Feb. 17th. Our event planned was “Get A Clue, Sweetheart”. The participants picked up a clue flyer and answered the questions on it that involves businesses and/or historical Landmarks from north end of Lincoln City toTaft. Our Grand Prize was 2 nights for 2 w/buffet dinner tickets and many of the area merchants donated prizes for the raffle that was drawn on Saturday, Feb. 17th, 2008. Indoor Windless Kite Festival on March 28 -30, 2008 was held at Taft High School. Lincoln City brought expert indoor kite fliers from all over the country for demonstrations and to teach kids of all ages how to soar without wind. Roundabouts had their Motorcycle Bean Bag Toss for all ages to have fun with. 1st Roundabouts Spring Poker Run on Saturday, April 19th, 2008. Sponsored by: Roadhouse 101 of Taft, Chinook Winds Casino Resort, Freeman Choppers LLC, Rhoades Trucking Inc., T&L Motorcycle Detailing, Station 3 Embroidery, Lincoln City Sports and Imports & Echo Mountain-Riverbend Park Water Systems, LLC. The Poker Run started at Roadhouse 101 (Taft area of Lincoln City), First bike/vehicle out at 10AM, and last bike/vehicle out by 12 AM. The Great Oregon Coast Garage Sale was April 18th-April 20th with over 100 city wide garage sales, Church groups, neighborhoods, and individuals with great deals participated from Lincoln City down south to Waldport. Although the weather was somewhat uncooperative, Roundabouts was able to still have a successful poker run. Roundabouts Spring Poker Rerun was on June 7th, 2008. Sponsored by Roadhouse 101 Bar & Grill Rose Lodge, Chinook Winds Casino Resort, Freeman Choppers, LLC, Rhoades Truck Inc, T&L Motorcycle Detailing, Station 3 Embroidery, Lincoln City Sports and Imports & Echo Mountain-Riverbend Park Water Systems, LLC. The Poker Run started at Roadhouse 18 with first bike/vehicle out at 8:00 am
and last bike out at 10:00 am.
Participants brought cans of food for the Lincoln City Food Bank.
Fun was had by all. Roundabouts adopted the Evergreen Nursing Home to send birthday cards, just stop by & say Hi to the residents or drop off paperbacks for residents to read. On July 14, 2008 Roundabouts went to the Dorchester House and gave motorcycle rides to residents who were able to ride and then had dinner with them. On September 24, 2008 “The Traveling Vietnam Wall” was escorted by Roundabouts and several veterans groups escorted The Wall from Wilsonville to Lincoln City and participated in Celebration of Honor on September 26th. September 27th, 2008 Roundabouts did a fundraiser Bake Sale for Tyler Turner (Depoe Bay resident that was struck by a motorist In July while riding his motorcycle) at 51st Street . We were able to raise $345 to be deposited to Tyler Turner Recovery Fund. On October 13, Roundabouts went before the City Of Lincoln City Mayor & Council Members to talk about the 51st Street Turnaround & Flag pole as our Veteran project. It is still in the planning stages, but we are hoping that we can beautify the Flag Pole area and we mentioned of having Donate A Brick program.
On December 6, 2009 Roundabouts
bought a tree to sponsor from Angel Anonymous. We decorated the
tree in Beanie Bears Merchants Association) sponsored, 2nd Annual Miracle on 51st Santa Ride, where we started at Christmas Cottage in Nelscott where Santa & Mrs Clause came out & rode with all their elves & helpers to 51st St. Turnaround and greeted all the kids (young & old) at Eleanor’s to have pictures taken with them & Christmas Eve. On December 19th, Roundabouts delivered 6 big bags of toys to the Elks of Lincoln City, then proceeded to Les Schwab of Lincoln City & delivered 3 big bags of toys & filled their Christmas Tree with Stuffed animals for their Toy Drive. On December 22nd, Roundabouts took Christmas gifts to the Veterans that are residents of Evergreen Nursing Home. Also, we delivered several bags of toys to Knights Tackle of Rose Lodge to give to neighboring kids who were not going to have any Christmas gifts. We also gave a very large bag of Hats/Gloves/Scarves & socks to the Carolyn Plummer for the Oceanlake School to give to kids who come to school with out any Hats/gloves/scarves & socks.
2009 Scheduled Events March 1st, we had the honor of assisting with the 1st Inaugural ˝ Marathon for the Lincoln City Community Center in Lincoln City as course support. We are looking forward to doing this again in 2010. March 3rd, we assisted with the Indoor Kite Festival held at the Taft High School. We helped on the kid’s games and will be helping again in 2010. June 6th, we assisted with Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife with the Kids Fish Free at the Fish Hatchery on Northbank Rd. in Otis. The kids had a blast & so did our members who helped. Also, we made a gift basket that was auctioned at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, for the Auction for the Arts fundraiser. This year $10,000 was raised. Roundabouts participated in auctioning several donated items. July 4th , Roundabouts participated with a truck/float & sand rail in the Gleneden Beach 4th of July parade in which we won Grand Prize. After the Gleneden Beach Parade, we set off fireworks for the Evergreen Nursing Home, Lakeview Retirement Center & finished at Dorchester Retirement Center. July 14th, we had the honor to once again to escort The Travelling Vietnam Wall from Columbia Harley Davidson in Vancouver, Washington to Albany, Oregon to the Timber Linn Park. July 18th, Roundabouts sponsored the Poker Run during the Traveling Vietnam Wall week long Venue, starting in Albany at the Timber Linn Park and ending at the Plantation Inn in Jefferson Oregon. August 23rd, Roundabouts again gave motorcycle rides to the residents at the Dorchester Retirement Center. September 19th & 20th, several Roundabouts assisted Angels Anonymous at Surf City which was held at Chinook Winds Casino and also sold tickets for our Cruise to Alaska raffle at Safeway. We sold several tickets and had a blast helping with traffic with the Angel Anonymous volunteers. September 26th, Roundabouts sponsored 1st Coastal Capes Poker Run during Celebration of Honor during the Veteran Appreciation weekend in Lincoln City at the DeLake School. Look for our 2nd Annual Coastal Capes Poker Run in 2010. October 31st, Several Roundabouts helped handing out candy for the Halloween at The Historical Anchor Inn in Taft and also helped on the Hay Rides that was in downtown Taft. It was a crazy but fun night. We are looking forward to the next Halloween at The Historical Anchor Inn for 2010. December 2nd, Angel Anonymous Festival of Trees, we decorated a Christmas tree decorated with Military/Police/Fire ornaments & a gift basket filled with several local area merchants items that was auctioned off to help Angel Anonymous raise money to help local families in need. December 12th, 3rd Annual, Miracle on 51st St, in Taft, the Roundabouts with North Lincoln Fire & Rescue District #1 escorted Santa & Mrs Claus to greet the kids of all ages . We had pictures with Santa & Mrs. Claus for food donations. December 17th, we donated toys to for the annual Toy Drive at the Oceanlake Elks. As you see, we are a very busy group.
